Bipolar Diagnosis - in Seven Steps

Bipolar is in fact, a serious condition. Sometimes, patients wwith symptoms of manic-depression can be mis-diagnosed. Bipolar tests can actually take a year or longer to correctly diagnose. Overall, making this  a pretty difficult mental illness to treat.

When a patient with manic depression disorder is high or manic, it is likely that he/she won't feel the importance for a test. Only the depressive tendencies are diagnosed most often. The result would be an inaccurate diagnosis of the patient, concluding a depression treatment when it is actually a Bipolar issue.

When a Bipolar Diagnosis is conducted, the patient will be asked put through questions, assessments, laboratory exams, and constant analysis. These are outlined to determine if you have Bipolar and to understand the diagnosis and levels of concern. The tests consist of the following:

* Origin/Cycles: Its recommended to recall the details as when your manic-depressive episodes started. The frequency of the Bipolar cycle will also be important to help properly diagnose your problem. This will help doctors in understanding the importance and need of attention to your problem..

* Personal and Family History: Bipolar Diagnosis will also include questions related to personal or family history Bipolar Disorder is usually caused by your childhood surroundings, and can attribute to your family relationship.

* Mental health Assessment. It is possible that you will be interviewed separately to determine your emotion, memory, thinking and reasoning skills. This usually depends on the level of concern.

* Medical Records and history.  Doctors may want to ask you about drugs that have been prescribed to you before. He or she will also ask if youve taken any illegal drugs as well. Drugs can be a possible cause for Bipolar.

*Labs and Tests. You may be subject to laboratory tests if you have been taking drugs other than those prescribed to you.   

* Other References. Especially your doctor finds that you have a serious bipolar disorder, he or she may ask about you to your friends or family. If your doctor asks for these contacts, it should be OK to give it to them.  

* Observation and Analysis.  You may have to take a series of tests that observe your behavior patterns and mood swings. It is necessary to cnosider observing your physical and how you dress

Bipolar Diagnosis Children

Bipolar Diagnosis can reveal many symptoms of this  problem. Since symptoms share the same signs as any other mental illness, there is more difficulty in diagnosing children for a bipolar diagnosis. Kids at a very young age may have characteristics similar to bipolar signs. Children are normally delinquent, anxious, and their learning curve is still developing constantly at this time. It is difficult to diagnose them. A childs mood swings are also similar in characteristics with bipolar disorder.  Psychosis, or ADHD also can sometimes be mistaken for bipolar disorder
